The 6.4L Powerstroke's twin-turbo setup gave it some of the strongest tow numbers Ford had posted at the time, and the owners who have kept these trucks and resolved the well-known maintenance issues tend to use that capability. A truck that regularly tows at or near its rated capacity puts serious, sustained demand on its brakes, and the 6.4 platform is no exception. The 2008–2010 production run is the smallest of the modern Powerstroke generations by install base, but the trucks still on the road are disproportionately active tow rigs. That means severe-duty brake hardware is the right starting point, not an OEM replacement spec.
