// Know the signs

Your brakes tell you first.

Most owners never think about a caliper until something feels off. Here's what that usually feels like from the driver's seat.

01

The pedal goes soft on the way down

Long grade, trailer behind you, and every stop takes a little longer. That's brake fade, and a caliper that isn't clamping evenly is a common cause.

02

The truck pulls to one side

A sticking caliper grabs harder on one wheel, so the truck tugs left or right when you brake.

03

One pad wears way faster

A caliper that won't fully release keeps that pad dragging on the rotor every mile you drive.

04

Hot wheel, burning smell, or a leak

Heat or a smell from one wheel after a drive, or brake fluid at the wheel, points to a seized or leaking caliper.

Feel any of these with a load behind you? Get it looked at before the next haul. If one caliper is seized or leaking, replace both on that axle so the two sides clamp the same.

What came offDoc's, new

// Why we built them

A rebuilt caliper is still a used part.

We already made the pads, rotors, and hubs for these trucks. The caliper was the missing piece of the brake job, so we built one.

A lot of replacement calipers are remanufactured: a used casting, cleaned up and repainted, with a core charge until you ship your old one back. We started from new instead.

PartTypical reman caliperDoc's caliper
Casting Used core, cleaned and repainted New casting
Pistons + seals Varies by rebuilder New pistons, EPDM70 seals
Bleeder screw Can be the original New bleeder screw
Finish Usually paint Full zinc plate
Core charge Paid up front, refunded once your core is accepted None. Nothing to ship back.

// The finish

Built for salt country.

Road salt and moisture go after bare iron first. Every Doc's caliper gets a full zinc plate instead of a coat of paint, plus a new bleeder screw, so the next brake bleed doesn't start with a fitting rusted in place.

Caliper questions

No. Every caliper is 100% new: new casting, new pistons, new seals, and a new bleeder screw. There's no core charge and nothing to send back.

Brackets, bolts, pins, washers, clips, and new bleeder screws where your truck requires them. Complete Brake Kits add matched rotors and pads, and the hub kits add front hub assemblies. Each listing shows exactly what's in the box.

Yes. Installing new calipers opens the hydraulic system, so bleed the brakes with fresh fluid before driving. Most kits are available with brake fluid included.

Keep them matched. Ceramic pads go with drilled & slotted rotors, and severe-duty (semi-metallic) pads go with high-carbon rotors. Every kit is already matched for you.
