GM's Oil Life Monitor may show 7,500 or even 10,000 miles as acceptable. That interval is calibrated to satisfy fuel economy and emissions regulations, not to protect the AFM system under real-world use.   • E85 flex fuel use: the 5.3L and 6.2L are flex fuel capable. E85 is harder on plugs and shortens effective life by 30-40%. If you run E85 regularly, plan for replacement at 60,000 miles.
  • AFM misfires: worn plugs on an AFM-equipped 5.3L interact badly with the cylinder deactivation system.
